Residence
Berkeley, California
Design proposal for a for a Residential Developer. 4,500 sqft. residence for a vacant downsloping lot in the Oakland/Berkeley hills.
Contemporary update upon the Spanish/Mission style--a structure with thick stucco walls, spanish-tiled roofs with deep overhangs, exposed wood deck and timber framing, timber trusses over the "Great Room".
All spaces open onto a sheltered flagstone-paved courtyard which steps down via intimate planted terraces with the contours of the site. The courtyard is oriented towards the southwest for pleasant year-round use. A free-form koi pond in the courtyard engages the residence directly at the glazing line for the viewing interest of persons within. Lot currently remains undeveloped.
