Private Residence
The Promontory Ranch Club
Park City, Utah
12,000 sqft. residence (8,000 liveable) on 3-acre downsloping site at 7,000 foot elevation with 270° distant views of surrounding mountain ranges. The lot and building area were well forward of any adjacent property, affording total privacy and unobstructed views from within the residence.
Cor-ten steel sheet employed for roof and siding finish. Architectural poured-in-place concrete plat-form carries main social spaces and shelters terrace below. Concrete integrally colored with a bush-hammered finish. Copper-clad window and door system (wood interior). The Client strongly preferred a contemporary design yet also had to respect the Design Guidelines for the community (which favored the more rustic "mountain vernacular" genre).
The residence received Design Review approval and was then developed to 90% compete Construction Drawings (with all engineering finished). Several very well-qualified General Contractors were negotiating price to build the residence. When the effects of the downturn in the economy were becoming manifest, the Owner decided to shelve the project just short of building permit submittal.
